The internal crisis within the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) appears to be intensifying, with a faction led by Dr. Gilbert Agbo disowning Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as the party's leader. Dr. Agbo, who has been spearheading an anti-Kwankwasiya campaign, argues that Kwankwaso’s suspension by the party’s National Working Committee effectively ends his role and membership in the NNPP. This development included a symbolic burning of the red caps associated with the Kwankwasiya movement, marking a bold statement of separation from Kwankwaso's influence.

On the other hand, Mallam Danladi Umar Abdulhamid, a key figure of the Kwankwasiya Movement, has dismissed Agbo’s faction as illegitimate, insisting that Kwankwaso remains the true leader of the party under the leadership of Dr. Ahmed Ajuji. The factional disputes, which also involve Governor Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, who has been summoned to appear before a disciplinary committee, reflect deeper divisions that could affect the party’s cohesion and future electoral prospects.

As this power struggle continues, it raises questions about the NNPP's unity, especially considering Kwankwaso’s prominent role in the party's rise in recent years. Observers of Nigerian politics will be watching closely to see how this internal conflict unfolds and what it might mean for the party’s future.
