Breaking: 2025 AFCON Qualifiers, Dele Bashiru came from the bench to rescue as Super Eagle beats Libya.
Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru became the night’s hero with his 85th-minute goal, leading Nigeria to a 1-0 victory over Libya in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.
This win keeps Nigeria at the top of Group D, with seven points from their first three matches, following Benin's 3-0 triumph over Rwanda. Dele-Bashiru, who came on for Alex Iwobi in the 74th minute, scored in the 86th minute by connecting with a low cross from Moses Simon. His goal broke through the North Africans’ determined defense, which had resorted to various tactics, including time-wasting, to frustrate the Eagles.
Earlier in the match, a goal by Ademola Lookman was disallowed for offside, sparking protests from some fans in the stands.
The Super Eagles will now head to Libya for a rematch on Tuesday, where a win would almost guarantee their spot in the 2025 tournament in Morocco.
