Jigawa State: More than 90 people killed and scores injured as Tanker exploded

 


The tragic explosion of a petrol tanker in Majia town, Jigawa State, has claimed the lives of over 90 people and left around 50 injured. The incident occurred late Tuesday night when the driver lost control of the tanker, causing it to crash and spill fuel. Local residents, attracted by the spilled fuel, rushed to collect it, leading to the devastating explosion.

The tanker, bearing the number plate KMC 6412 F and driven by Yusuf Mohammad, was en route from Kano to Nguru in Jigawa State. The police confirmed that the injured have been taken to Ringim General Hospital for treatment. DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam reported that the explosion resulted in immediate fatalities and severe injuries among those at the scene.

Jigawa State’s Commissioner of Police, A.T Abdullahi, expressed condolences to the victims' families and emphasized the importance of caution during such incidents to prevent further tragedies.
