Zone C Senatorial district in Niger has the worst Federal roads

Niger State, the largest in Nigeria by land area, is a crucial transit point between the northern and southern regions, with significant federal roads. It features three senatorial zones, with Zone C housing the largest land mass, including the local governments of Borgu and Mashegu, noted for their size.

Despite its strategic importance, many federal roads in Niger State are in deplorable condition, impacting travel and trade. Key roads in urgent need of attention include:

1. Makera to Tegina to Birnin Gwari:

Once a major route, this road is now impassable, forcing heavy vehicles to take longer detours that increase traffic and travel time.

2. Makera to Kontagora: Although part of a larger rehabilitation project, this stretch remains in disrepair, causing journeys to take up to six hours instead of one.

3. Kontagora to Bangi to Wasagu:

This road is among the worst in Nigeria, with rehabilitation stalled due to funding issues, despite a contract awarded six years ago.

4.Kontagora to Rijau to Zuru:

This historic road, contracted for repair during the Obasanjo administration, has seen little progress over the past two decades.

5. Ibeto to Salka to Auna to Mokwa: Another neglected route requiring urgent repairs.

6. Mokwa to New Bussa to Gupanti to Agwara to Yauri:

This road is also not motorable and needs immediate attention.

7. Minna to Tegina to Kontagora:

A heavily trafficked route, particularly the Zungeru bridge section, is causing significant delays.

8. Zungeru to Wushishi to Bida:

This old road features narrow bridges, hindering traffic flow and necessitating urgent improvements.

These deteriorating conditions hinder economic activities and pose safety risks for commuters, highlighting the urgent need for federal government intervention to restore these vital routes.
