Abuja - Kaduna road contract by Julius Berger terminated: FG
The Federal Government of Nigeria has terminated the N740 billion contract for the rehabilitation of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano dual carriageway, originally awarded to Julius Berger. Abuja - Kaduna road
The termination, announced on November 4, 2024, follows the company's failure to comply with the revised cost, scope, and terms of the contract, as well as a refusal to remobilize to the construction site. Despite several months of negotiations and extensions, no meaningful progress was made on Section 1 (Abuja-Kaduna) of the project.
The contract, initially awarded in December 2017 for a total of N155.7 billion, was adjusted over time due to variations and augmentations.
The scope of the work was further revised in 2024, splitting Section 1 into phases, with part of the road to be constructed with concrete pavement and the rest with asphalt. Julius Berger was granted a revised contract sum of N740.8 billion, but failed to accept the final offer or attend a crucial meeting on November 4, prompting the Ministry's decision to terminate the agreement.
