 The announcement of the death of Lt. General Tahoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, is a significant loss for Nigeria. His passing at the age of 56, following a period of illness, marks the end of a distinguished military career. Appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in June 2023, General Lagbaja had a long and impactful service record, having led and participated in several key military operations within Nigeria. His leadership, commitment to national security, and dedication to professional growth were evident throughout his career, which also included training at the U.S. Army War College. His death, especially at such a young age, is a blow to the Nigerian Armed Forces, and his family and colleagues will surely mourn his loss.

Over 20 people kidnapped along Mariga -Kontagora - speaker

  Over 20 passengers have reportedly been kidnapped on the Mariga-Kontagora road in Niger State, according to Barrister Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji, the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly.  The incident occurred when bandits blocked the road between Baban-Lamba and Beri. Sarkin-Daji expressed concern about the military's dismissal of claims regarding bandit activities near military training grounds in Kontagora,  noting that victims previously kidnapped had reported being held in a forest close to the Kontagora Army Barracks.  He urged the military to take the feedback from affected communities seriously and work to eliminate the bandits operating in the area.  The Speaker emphasized that the military's role is to protect citizens, calling on federal authorities to address the situation effectively.
