Check mate the activities of food items hoarders - Gov. Bago, charged Task force
Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has called on the state task force for price control to take immediate action against food item aggregators hoarding supplies in their warehouses, contributing to artificial scarcity and price hikes.
Speaking during the launch of Niger Foods' corn harvest along Bida Road, Bago emphasized that these actions disrupt the availability of essential commodities at fair prices.
The governor highlighted the state's progress in mechanized agriculture as part of his "Feed the Nation" agenda, noting that more than 100,000 hectares of corn fields have been cultivated across Niger State.
To support the harvest, 100 combined harvesters have been deployed, which are expected to reduce crop losses by 80 to 90 percent.
With expectations to produce about a million metric tons of corn this year, alongside other crops such as rice, soybeans, sesame, guinea corn, and millet, the governor aims to strengthen food security in the state.
