Salaries of civil servants in 12 MDA's to be delayed

Civil servants are expressing concern over a recent announcement that salaries for employees in 12 ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) will be delayed by three months.

This delay stems from budgetary constraints linked to the implementation of a new minimum wage and the unexpected inclusion of a 40 percent CONPSS Peculiar Allowance, which was not initially budgeted for.

A circular from the director of finance, Jack Odeh, confirmed that salaries would be funded through the Service-Wide Vote, but warned of delays until the necessary funds are available.

The Voice of Nigeria also notified its staff about the October to December salary hold-up, further heightening anxiety among civil servants.

Affected workers have voiced their distress, highlighting the challenges of managing daily expenses in an already difficult economic climate.

They worry that delayed payments could lead to long-term financial instability and a loss of trust in government operations.

Many have begun seeking alternative financing options to cope with immediate financial needs, further exacerbating their concerns about job security and the sustainability of relying on informal lending networks.

This situation has prompted calls for reforms in budget allocation and disbursement processes within government institutions to prevent similar issues in the future.
