We want our Land back as Military failed to secure it, Kontagora Emirate beg Mr President

Kontagora emirate raise a pressing concern regarding the use of land by the Nigerian military in Kontagora, Niger State, which has inadvertently become a haven for bandits. Engr. Mustafa Bello, the former Minister of Commerce, is requesting the President to revoke or terminate the military's leasehold on this land to allow the local population to reclaim it and eliminate the criminal presence.

"KONTAGORA PEOPLE NEED THEIR LAND BACK FROM THE MILITARY WHO FAILED TO SECURE IT... By Engr Mustafa Bello Former Minister of commerce..

The President and C-in-C of;

The Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,

Aso Villa,

Abuja.

REQUEST TO TERMINATE OR REVOKE THE LEASEHOLD ON THE LARGE HECTARES OF LAND HELD BY MILITARY IN *KONTAGORA*, NIGER STATE, AS TRAINING/ MILITARY EXERCISE RANGE, THAT HAS NOW PROVIDED SANCTUARY FOR BANDITS OPERATING FREELY IN THE SENATORIAL DISTRICT.

I humbly write to invite Your Excellency's attention to the challenges and difficulties now faced by citizens of the Niger-North Senatorial District (Kontagora * Borgu Emirates of Niger State) of serious incursions by well armed Bandits operating from the very Large Hectares of Land allocated to the Brigade in Kontagora as an *"Exercise & Training Range"* in which the Military Authorities in Kontagora had driven out every village or hamlets or settlements out of. This land spans from Kontagora to the boundaries of Dogon-Fadama to the North and to almost Mariga to the South-East that's unproductive and redundant. As a result these Bandits realized that such a vacant space not under surveillance by anybody was available and ripe for them to move into.

They've, from all indications and intelligence coming to the villages nearby, that have been attacked regularly that there operational bases have relocated into this fertile ground and built up their arsenal in that land from where they are now assaulting the entire Zone.

I urge Mr. President to immediately revoke the leasehold on that land to enable citizens occupy this space and dislodge these unwanted criminals.

I thank Mr. President in advance in anticipation of his favourable response.

Engr. M. Bello, FNSE."

The main points in the letter are:

1.Land Allocation to the Military: A large expanse of land in Kontagora, allocated to the military for training and exercises, has been abandoned and left unproductive.

2. Bandit Incursions: The vacant land has become a safe haven for armed bandits, who have set up operational bases in the area, using the land as cover for attacks on nearby villages.

3. Call for Action: Engr. Bello urges the President to revoke the military's leasehold on the land, allowing the local communities to regain control and push out the bandits.

He emphasized the need for immediate action to protect the citizens and restore peace to the region. This is a critical request, as it links the lack of military oversight over the land to the rise in criminal activities in that area.
