Ademola Lookman is the 2024 African Men Player of the Year - CAF

Ademola Lookman has been crowned the 2024 African Player of the Year, solidifying his status as one of Africa's brightest football stars. 

The Super Eagles and Atalanta forward won the CAF Men’s Player of the Year award at a ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday, surpassing top contenders Simon Adingra (Brighton), Serhou Guirassy (Dortmund), and Achraf Hakimi (PSG).

Lookman’s incredible form saw him play a pivotal role in Atalanta’s Europa League triumph and Nigeria’s journey to the AFCON 2024 final.

His consistent performances made him the favorite for the award, even amidst speculation that Hakimi might win following his league and cup successes with PSG and Morocco's Olympic bronze medal.

In an emotional speech, Lookman credited his success to God, his family, and the unwavering support of Nigerians, including President Bola Tinubu. He also offered inspiring words for young players:

"Don’t let your failure weigh you down. Turn your pains into wings.

Lookman dedicated the award to Nigeria and his family, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and resilience.

This victory cements Lookman’s place as a leading figure in African football, and his triumph is a source of pride for Nigeria and the continent.

Over 20 people kidnapped along Mariga -Kontagora - speaker

  Over 20 passengers have reportedly been kidnapped on the Mariga-Kontagora road in Niger State, according to Barrister Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji, the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly.  The incident occurred when bandits blocked the road between Baban-Lamba and Beri. Sarkin-Daji expressed concern about the military's dismissal of claims regarding bandit activities near military training grounds in Kontagora,  noting that victims previously kidnapped had reported being held in a forest close to the Kontagora Army Barracks.  He urged the military to take the feedback from affected communities seriously and work to eliminate the bandits operating in the area.  The Speaker emphasized that the military's role is to protect citizens, calling on federal authorities to address the situation effectively.
