The takeover of the Kano Emir's Palace by armed security operatives has sparked widespread curiosity and speculation, with the reasons for the heightened security presence still unknown.
Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II was set to accompany Alhaji Munir Sanusi, the newly-appointed Wamban Kano, to his district posting in Bichi, an area recently affected by changes in the emirate structure.
The newly reinstated Bichi Emirate, along with three others, had been dissolved by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf after their creation during the tenure of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
This development has added political and traditional dimensions to the ongoing security situation.
The palace at Kofar Kudu, alongside the Bichi Emir’s Palace, remains under tight security, with armed operatives restricting movement.
This disruption has left traditional rulers and titleholders stranded, forcing many to abandon their vehicles and walk to the central mosque for Friday prayers.
As of now, the security operatives continue to maintain their presence, monitoring the area and restricting human and vehicular access.
While Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II reportedly remains within the palace, further updates are awaited to clarify the reasons behind the heavy deployment.
