Former Chief of Defence has called for reassessment of security recruitment process
General Martin Luther Agwai, a former Chief of Defence Staff, has called for a reassessment of Nigeria’s security recruitment processes as part of broader efforts to address the nation’s insecurity. Speaking at the National Summit on Security, Justice, and National Reorientation in Kaduna, organized by the House of Justice, Agwai highlighted concerns about the undue influence of highly placed government officials in determining security personnel recruitment.
While acknowledging ongoing government efforts to tackle insecurity, Agwai stressed the importance of addressing issues of justice, fairness, and equity to create a stable environment for development. He underscored that significant progress requires collaboration among Nigerians, noting that containing insecurity is a prerequisite for national growth.
Agwai's remarks come amidst ongoing discussions on how to improve Nigeria’s security framework, with a focus on transparency and inclusiveness in governance.
