Lamido Adamawa role, State Assembly clarified
The Adamawa State House of Assembly has reaffirmed the position of the Lamido Adamawa as the Chairman of the State Council of Emirs and Chiefs, clarifying concerns regarding his role. Musa Mahmoud Kallamu, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, addressed the issue during a press conference, highlighting that the Adamawa State Council of Chiefs Bill solidifies this position.
According to Kallamu, Section 17 of the bill formally establishes the Adamawa State Council of Chiefs, while Section 18 specifies its membership, which includes traditional rulers, second-class chiefs, the Permanent Secretary for Chieftaincy Affairs, and the ALGON Chairman. He explained that although zonal traditional councils have been introduced with rotational chairmanship, they remain subordinate to the state council, and their operations do not affect the Lamido Adamawa’s role as chairman.
This clarification aims to dispel any misconceptions about the impact of the new bill on traditional leadership structures in the state.
