National Grid collapsed again

National Grid

The frequent collapse of Nigeria's national power grid remains a critical concern, reflecting deep-seated issues in the country’s power infrastructure. With 11 grid collapses recorded between January and November 2024, including three within a single week in October, the challenges have caused widespread blackouts and significant public frustration.

The most recent collapse, confirmed via a tweet by the National Grid at 2:09 PM on Wednesday, highlights the recurring nature of these failures. Authorities announced that efforts to restore power had begun, though such assurances often do little to alleviate the broader concerns about the stability and efficiency of the grid.

These persistent outages have reignited calls for substantial reforms in Nigeria's energy sector, with many Nigerians demanding improved investment in infrastructure, better management, and the adoption of sustainable energy solutions to address these recurring failures.
