FCT Minister

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken decisive action by revoking the ownership of 762 plots of land in Maitama, Abuja, due to non-payment of statutory fees. This measure targets prominent individuals and organizations, highlighting his commitment to enforcing compliance with land regulations.

The affected plots are in Maitama, one of Abuja's most upscale districts.

The action is grounded in Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978, empowering the minister to revoke land rights for non-compliance with payment obligations.

Notable individuals include former President Muhammadu Buhari (via the Muhammadu Buhari Trust Foundation), former Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen, and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.

Other figures include Senate Chief Whip Tahir Monguno, former Senate Leader Teslim Folarin, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume.

The FCTA has issued a two-week ultimatum to 614 other allottees to settle outstanding bills or face revocation of their Rights of Occupancy (R-of-O)

Nyesom Wike, since assuming office in August 2023, has emphasized accountability and strict enforcement of Abuja’s land administration rules. He has stated that actions to enforce compliance might not be universally welcomed but are necessary for order.

This move reflects a broader effort to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective governance in the FCT's land management.
