Governor Bago denied access the opportunity to see the deplorable condition of Makera to Kontagora road - Makera residents.

The deplorable state of the 85-kilometer Makera to Kontagora road in Niger State is a major concern for residents and commuters. Despite the completion of the Kontagora to Sokoto road, this particular stretch remains under construction, causing immense hardship for those who rely on it. The poor condition of the road has led to a significant increase in transport costs, forcing many to resort to motorbikes. The journey, which should ordinarily take less than two hours, now stretches to 6–7 hours for smaller vehicles and takes an entire day for heavy trucks, often accompanied by accidents and breakdowns.

Hopes for improvement rose when the state governor planned a zone tour, but political maneuvering prevented him from experiencing the poor condition of the road firsthand. Instead, he was diverted to a better section of the road at Babban Rami, denying him the chance to witness the dire situation and advocate for immediate intervention.

The people and transporters in the area are calling for urgent action from the federal and state governments. The Minister of Works is urged to prioritize the completion of the road by ensuring funds are released. Similarly, the Senator and House of Representatives member representing the area must push for adequate budgetary allocation to address this long-standing issue, which has persisted for over two decades.

Immediate intervention is crucial to alleviate the suffering of commuters, reduce transport costs, and ensure safer and quicker travel between Makera and Kontagora.
