The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has strongly condemned the recent killings of northern hunters in Uromi, Edo State. In a statement issued on March 29, 2025, NEF expressed deep shock and sadness over the brutal killings, emphasizing that the North has tolerated such acts in the past but will no longer condone them. 

The hunters were reportedly on their way home to celebrate the end of Ramadan and the Eid Kabir festival when they were attacked.

NEF, represented by Professor Abubakar Jika Jiddere, demanded the immediate arrest and trial of those responsible for the killings and a public prosecution to ensure transparency and accountability. 

The forum also called for compensation to the victims' families in line with their faiths and for an official apology from the authorities in Edo State, along with a commitment to prevent future violence. 

NEF set a deadline of 14 days for the fulfillment of these demands, warning that failure to do so would compel the North to take necessary actions to seek justice. 

The forum also called on the Federal Government to take concrete steps to ensure justice is served, maintaining peace and coexistence in Nigeria.

Over 20 people kidnapped along Mariga -Kontagora - speaker

  Over 20 passengers have reportedly been kidnapped on the Mariga-Kontagora road in Niger State, according to Barrister Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji, the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly.  The incident occurred when bandits blocked the road between Baban-Lamba and Beri. Sarkin-Daji expressed concern about the military's dismissal of claims regarding bandit activities near military training grounds in Kontagora,  noting that victims previously kidnapped had reported being held in a forest close to the Kontagora Army Barracks.  He urged the military to take the feedback from affected communities seriously and work to eliminate the bandits operating in the area.  The Speaker emphasized that the military's role is to protect citizens, calling on federal authorities to address the situation effectively.
