Bandit Attack in Mariga local government, Leaves At Least 13 Dead, Including Policeman and Vigilante
At least 13 people, including a mobile policeman and a vigilante member, have been reportedly killed by heavily armed bandits in Maigoro and several other adloining communities in the Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.
The attack occurred on Tuesday, as the assailants overwhelmed local security personnel and carried out coordinated assaults across multiple locations. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with residents fleeing their homes in fear for their lives.
Chairman of Mariga LGA, Abbas Adamu Kasuwar Garba, confirmed the incident but stated that the actual number of casualties has yet to be determined.
This latest violence comes just two weeks after a similar attack in the same local government area, during which about 17 soldiers lost their lives in a clash with bandits.
The recurrent attacks have raised concerns among residents and officials about the deteriorating security situation in the region and the increasing boldness of armed groups operating in the area.
