 Zenith Bank Plc has announced the appointment of Engr. Mustafa Bello as Chairman of its Board of Directors, effective immediately.

The appointment follows approval by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and ratification by shareholders at the Annual General Meeting held on May 5, 2026.

Engr. Bello’s appointment reflects the Bank’s commitment to continuity, stability, and effective governance. It underscores Zenith Bank’s enduring focus on strong corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and strategic oversight.

He joined the Board in December 2017 and has served on several key committees, including the Board Audit and Compliance Committee, Board Governance, Nomination and Remuneration Committee, and as Chairman of the Board Risk Management Committee.

With over four decades of experience across the public and private sectors, Engr. Bello brings extensive leadership expertise and a deep understanding of governance and regulatory frameworks. His track record in strategic oversight and organizational development positions him to guide the Board effectively in its next phase.

A former Minister of Commerce (1999–2002) under President Olusegun Obasanjo, he played a key role in developing Nigeria’s WTO-compliant trade policy. He also contributed to the digitization of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in 2002 and served as Executive Secretary/CEO of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) from 2003 to 2014, where he helped attract foreign direct investment and strengthen Nigeria’s economic partnerships.

Engr. Bello holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering from Ahmadu Bello

 University, Zaria. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and a member of COREN and ANSEN.

BREAKING: Gunmen Kidnap Passengers, Including Former SUBEB Chairman, in Niger State

A group of armed gunmen have kidnapped multiple travellers in Niger State,   The attack occurred along the Ibbi–Bussa road in the Mokwa–New Bussa axis after the assailants ambushed a highway and engaged in a shootout with police officers. Among those abducted is Alhaji Bawa Niworo, a former chairman of the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB).  Reports indicate that he, along with others—including a lawyer identified as Barrister Ahmad—were en route to Minna, the state capital, when their convoy was intercepted and they were taken into a nearby forest.
