Despite the military's successful operation that neutralized several bandits in Warari, Rijau Local Government Area yesterday, fresh reports indicate that another group of armed bandits is heading toward Kumbashi, Kakihum, Maburya, and surrounding communities in Mariga Local Government Area this morning. Authorities are urged to remain on high alert, as the group is believed to be on a revenge mission. Sources report that the bandits assembled earlier today at their base in the Kotonkoro forest.

Reports from Warari, a small town in Rijau Local Government Area of Niger State, have confirmed that troops of the Nigerian Army have repelled a terrorist attack on the community earlier today. Military personnel and armed bandits engaged in a fierce gun battle that lasted for about four hours. Sources from the local residents stated that many of the terrorists were killed during the confrontation. Those who attempted to flee on motorcycles were pursued by the soldiers and gunned down due to the intense pressure from the troops. According to information obtained from residents of the area, the attackers were the same group of terrorists that had carried out recent attacks in the region. As of now, security agencies have not released an official death toll. However, multiple sources claim that the number of bandit corpses was unprecedented.

Civil Servants Demand Payment of N35,000 Wage Arrears from FG

       Federal Secretariat Complex, Abuja Many civil servants in Abuja have called on the Federal Government to settle the four months’ outstanding arrears of the N35,000 wage award owed to them. The workers spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja, expressing frustration over the unexplained delay in receiving the payment. According to NAN, the Federal Government had earlier announced on April 28 that it would pay the five months’ wage award arrears in instalments. This was confirmed by Mr. Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF). Mokwa stated that the government had already paid one month’s arrears in instalments and planned to pay the remaining four months in monthly instalments of N35,000 each. Bandits Presently In Mariga Local government again

Another group of armed bandits is currently present in Kumbashi, Kakihum, Maburya and other communities, located in the Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State. Reports reaching this blog indicate that the bandits began gathering yesterday evening to plan renewed attacks on surrounding communities. It will be recalled that about a week ago, the same group of bandits attacked Rijau town in Rijau Local Government Area, looting valuables and killing several residents. They were also reported to have targeted other communities in the vicinity. Although the bandits were intercepted by Nigerian armed forces between Makuku and Dankolo villages in Kebbi State—where several were believed to have been neutralized and stolen cattle recovered—their recent activity may be a retaliatory move following their earlier defeat. Authorities are urgently called upon to intervene and provide security support to these communities before the situation escalates further.

Army Killed several bandits that attacked Rijau and Mariga local government recently

Several armed bandits have reportedly been killed by the military in between Makuku and Dankolo in Kebbi state on Thursday . These bandits had recently launched attacks on Rijau, Gulbim Boka, Maburya, and nearby communities, during which they killed some residents and stole herds of cattle. A joint operation by the Nigerian Army and Air Force intercepted and neutralized many of the bandits as they were returning to their base, approximately three days after the attacks. Some of the bandits attempted to escape but were eventually apprehended by security forces and local vigilantes according to the source.

Armed bandits have continued to unleash terror on residents of Mariga, Mashegu and Rijau Local Government Areas. Reports indicate that hundreds of the assailants were sighted in Kumbashi, heading toward other locations such as Maburya, Kakihum, Gulbim Boka, and Rijau yesterday. In fear for their lives, residents of these communities have fled their homes for safer areas. According to another source, around 300 bandits riding motorcycles were seen in Rijau town—the headquarters of Rijau Local Government—where they broke into homes and shops, looted valuables. Most residents had already gone into hiding to avoid the attacked yesterday. It was reported that the bandits operated in Rijau for over four hours without any intervention from security forces. General Buhari as Former Head of State (1984 - 1985) Daura, the hometown of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, is set to host his final rites today, as Nigeria continues to mourn the passing of the 82-year-old statesman who died in a London clinic on Sunday. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared today a public holiday and a seven-day national mourning period, with flags flying at half-mast until July 20. Buhari’s remains are expected to arrive in Nigeria by noon, to be received by President Tinubu, before being transported to Daura for Janaza prayers at 2 p.m., in accordance with Islamic traditions. Originally scheduled to begin on June 26, the recruitment process was postponed and is now open as of Monday, July 14, 2025.
